BOB’S SURPRISE!
I was reared in a Baptist community. I was exposed to the normal Christian environment, (*)aster, Christmas, and Sunday. Thirteen miles away was a Catholic community, my exposure to Catholicism was by crude Baptist-Catholic jokes. My maternal grandmother and my paternal grandparents were active in the Baptist church, also my best friend, so quite naturally, I went there too, I walked the aisle, was baptized, and joined R.A.s, then began the Baptist backslide right out of religion. I lived quite nicely without religion and G-d for the bulk of my adult life. In the early eighties my youngest daughter became unmanageable, I tasted real defeat! I was so low, the only way was up. It brought me to my knees, The proper position to start a search for G—d.
I learned to turn my baby over to G-d, without this knowledge I wouldn’t have been able to carry on. In the late eighties after many hours of Bible reading I had a spiritual awakening! As it is written, the scales were removed from my eyes. I could now perceive and understand the things that were hidden before. I now understood, from there, I began my search for truth. Surprise, surprise! What I had been taught to be true and biblical, were nowhere to be found in the bible?!! How!, can this be so? I asked myself. How is it that what the church and the world had taught me for fifty years as biblical couldn’t be found anywhere in the bible?!!
There’s an old saying, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on Me.”. I felt betrayed. Shame on you, church. Shame on you, King James. Shame on you, Catholic Church. Shame on you, world. Now! After being fooled all my life. It’s time to follow biblical instructions and prove all things. No more was I going to take anything for ”gospel” unless it is from the “Gospel”.
“(*)aster”, the second important “Christian Holiday” for me. I was to discover, wasn’t in the bible, although it was once in the Old King James Version. In Acts 12:4, the word easter was used (1) once, that word was Passover in all (27) other places it is used. G—d inspired the word Passover, KJV chose *aster.* Why? Christmas, the Most important Christian holiday was no where to be found in the KJV, ASV, RSV or Living V. Why Not? Could it be that “Christmas” was the “Precept of Men”? YES! Christmas had to be invented, it arrived much too late to be included in the bible.
I believed that Sunday was the English word for Sabbath! Once again “Fooled YOU”!!! Man perceived it right to hallow the “First day” as the Christian Holy Day. Did men of God, “Christians”, think by osmosis, they could agree on this and God would ordain it? Is that what they thought?
In conclusion, I haven‘t yet proven all things. So being aware of the warnings from God’s son, for false teaching, (i.e. “to be least in the kingdom”--“the millstone”) I for one, will teach from the Bible that which is in the Bible, that of the world, from worldly writings!
* King James took from the Tynedale bible the term ester. William Tynedale was a friend of Martin Luther, Martin Luther coined the word easter, Tynedale became aware of the mistake, but was unable to correct his earlier writings. (Roman Emperors made celebrating any “Feast of the Jews” illegal. about 125AD)
