Where do these shabbatown show up? Is this when you read in Hebrew?
Hebrew is a struggle for me, after much deciphering do I figure out what is said.
Clue me in, please.
Here's a link that I think you will really like.
interlinearbible.org/genesis/1.htmHere's a link with a Stong's search:
www.blueletterbible.org/search.cfm#strongsSurprisingly, the first time the word "Shabbat" (Sabbath) appears is in Ex 16.
Ex 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy
sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
When referring to the seventh day weekly Sabbath the term "shabbat" is used often. In terms of the festivals (chaggim/moedim/appointed times), the Torah only uses the term Shabbat in referring to Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).
In Lev 23 in referring to Yom Teruah/Rosh Hashanna/Feast of Trumpets, most versions use the word "sabbath." The Hebrew word used here is not "shabbat" though, but "shabbatown."
Lev 23:24-25 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a
sabbath,(Shabbatown) a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. 25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
Again when Lev 23 refers to Sukkot/tabernacles, the term that is translated "sabbath" in English is the Hebrew word "shabbatown."
Lev 23:39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a
sabbath/shabbatown, and on the eighth day shall be a
sabbath/shabbatown.KJV
Although rarely, shabbatown is used in referring to the seventh day sabbath/shabbat and is translated as "rest" here.
Lev 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of
rest/shabbatown, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
Lev 23:3 actually refers to it this way:
(Six) (days) (shall be done) work (but day) (the seventh)
(sabbath/shabbat) (rest/shabbatown) (convocation/mikra) (holy/kodesh)
Strong's definitionOT:7677
shabbathown (shab-baw-thone'); from OT:7676; a sabbatism or special holiday: KJV - rest, sabbath.
Shabbatown: Strong's number OT:7677 is from the root word 7676 Shabbat.
OT:7676
shabbath (shab-bawth'); intensive from OT:7673; intermission, i.e (specifically) the Sabbath:
KJV - (+every) sabbath.
I hope this helps a little. I probably wasn't being very clear. I was curious what if any distinctions there are between a "shabbat" and a "shabbatown."
