Mayan calendar is mayan calendar and Bible is Word of God. So, who do you believe more?
I know, there will possibly be mad chaos and something concocted propagandas between people, just because many of them expect something unique to happen - but that's only secularists. Christians/Messianics will be at ease knowing that we may not know day or hour of our Lord's coming. Only if the 7 seals and 6 trumpets would be fulfilled from now until 2012. Because in 7th trumpet, Lord comes for His Church - not to the earth, only to the clouds. So, if the gospel will be preached until then into all countries and if the signs of 7 seals and 6 trumpets fulfill, only then we may expect coming of the Lord for us. But I don't think it will be that soon. There are still countries that need to hear gospel and be born-again. One thing is sure - until the eschatological (end-day) conditions are not fulfilled, IT MAY NOT COME.
Plus, in one of Peter's lists, is written that the day of Lord's coming will not come as people expect, so that many will doubt about it and just this will be their doom.

in 2012, the year 6000, is the end of the sixth mellinium. however, the calender was messed up by about 30+ years from the change between julian, gregorian, arabian, and hebrew calenders. the change between the lunar calender and solar calender may have changed about 100 years that we dont know about.
the mayan calender is one of the more accurate calenders, and their culture knew that it would not last for ever. so, they started a new AGE, not world, on 2012. it will be the age of whatever next king. if their culture was to last that long, they would have changed it for another thousands of years.
i have a lot to say about stuf like that, bt the fact is thatwe cant know- the calenders were tampered with by men, and were made by men., God MIGHT use the hebrew calender, but that is doubtful. he is not bound to time, or he would be a creation. see godandscience.org
