Revelation 20 seems to clearly indicate that there are actually two resurrections. The first resurrection for the "blessed and holy" The "second death" which is the lake of fire has no power over this group. Then we seem to have a general resurrection that involves everyone not included in the first one. It seems that everyone involved in this one suffers some loss, but it also seems that while some are not found written in the book of life that some are.
Some however believe there is but one resurrection. It is explain that the "first" resurrection should really be translated as "better" resurrection. However, the text clearly indicates that 1,000 years transpire before the second group is raised up again.
Thoughts?.

i do think that it could be translated better or first. either way, i think both are literal. in jewish literature, there has always been either one ressurection, or many, depending on your school of thought. some would seperate the ressurections btwn the good and bad, like Yochanan did.
but the better resurrection is the resurrection unto life, of john 8 i believe. john 8 also speaks of a resurrection unto death, where you are thrown into the lake of fire, dying again after be9ng declared unrighteous, as all evil will be burned by that fire, and all holy things will remain.
the second death is a literal second death. when we are ressurected unto life, our body is translated into immortal material, not of flesh and blood (1 cor 15- the resurrection chapter). this will allow us eternal life, granted by those who believe in the messiah. however, the second group is resurrected like lazerus, able to die again. so, like lazarus, they do die again in the lake of fire that will engulf the earth before it is renewed in the 3 perfect state.
there are two resurrections. i agree completely.
and there will be a melinium (i take it literal, but it may be allegorical), btwn the two resurrections.
those of the universalist school of thought believe that the second ressurection is the resurrection of evil in each man that is burned and destroyed, never to enter the world again. or theyt just reject this passage completely.
